How does a car insurance company know how often I use my car?

Peter asked:

I know that the less I use my car, the less the car company will cost me. But how can they know how often I use my car?
If I buy car insurance claiming that I always use public transportation to work, will they believe it?

Zorro asked:

Folks
I am dealing with an issue that involves 3 cars 3 drivers ( my wife, my son and I) and 2 different states (my son away at college)
the insurance companies are thiefs trying to stick it to me. Even though my son is at college more than 1250 miles away from home the insurance company still charge me for him, I bough him a car and since he is in another state my insurance premium is almost triple. Any ideas?
remember 3 cars 3 drivers and 2 states my son at college with a new car.
Will it be cheaper if he gets his own insurance?
Help is needed and much appreciated

Auto Insurance questions?

Kalen1212 asked:

I just bought a new car and moved out of my mothers house. I have been on her auto insurance as well since I was going to school while I was living there, after graduating, I finally found my own place. Since I bought the new car, I was wondering if it was illegal for me to stay on her insurance since I no longer reside there. She co-signed for me on the car loan, so she is actually on the registration along with me. I just don’t want to be doing anything illegally. I just bought the car this past weekend and moved the weekend before and I think I have a grace period to switch to my own policy if needed. Its just that the rate is sooo much cheaper on hers. I’m 28 with great a great driving record. Any thoughts?

Can a homeowner’s insurance cover an car stolen because keys were taken from break in to home?

Jenna B asked:

My friends home got broken into and car keys were stolen and with that stole the vehicle. The vehicle only had liability insurance. Now both homeowners and car insurance are telling them that they won’t pay for that loss. Is this correct in any way? The vehicle has a value of $7K. Would obtaining an attorney be helpful?
