  1. It's awesome that you are providing this great information for people who want to come to Canada but may not know what to expect. We just wanted to clarify a few things from the perspective of an insurance brokerage.

First of all, in terms of the car you choose, it can make a big difference in how much you pay for insurance, but the colour of the car really doesn't matter at all. In fact, when you call to buy insurance, they won't even ask about the colour. A red car may be more likely to be pulled over by police, but it doesn't affect insurance. For insurance, what matters is make, model and year (for example, 2017 Honda Civic, sorry Gagan?), and the insurance company will set the price based on past insurance claims for cars of that same year, make and model. It's a good idea to call for insurance quotes before you buy a car. If you're considering 2 different cars, ask for a quote for each one.

The point about winter tires is a good one. Don't say you have winter tires if you don't. Most insurance companies will ask for proof before giving you a discount, but either way, if you are caught lying about it, that goes on your record and you'll pay more for insurance in future years. The other important point, insurance aside, is that winter tires really do help you be safer on Canadian winter roads.

Lastly, we wanted to add to your point about getting a driver training certificate. It's important that you make sure that your certificate is from a driving school that is approved by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) in order to get a discount on insurance. Also, remember that with most insurance companies, driver training only lowers your insurance rate if you are considered a new driver (less than 3 years).

Sadly, most Canadian insurance companies won't recognize your driving experience if it was outside Canada or the U.S., so the driver training certificate may help you. If you do have a certificate from an approved driving school and it doesn't lower your rate, it's probably because the insurance company recognizes that you have at least 3 years of driving experience.

Hope this is helpful. Great video!
