This is even better than a Top 10, it’s a Top 14! Car insurance is one of those things that seems to go up year after year. This video shows a little of what …

  1. Thanks for letting everyone know about your own experiences. These threads help everyone to pay a little less. Shopping around is very important, but try and get quotes about a month before renewal. Leaving your insurance "shopping" to the last few days can also cost you more! Ashley.

  2. Premiums going up for no fault accidents are total nonsense. I had my car written off by a speeding BMW on the M74 outside Glasgow. He hit snow and ploughed into the back of me, which was totally unavoidable on my part. It wrote off my car. How on earth was this my fault and how on earth does this reflect on me as a driver? Got my licence in 2010, and now my insurance costs a fortune due to the stupidity of this speeding youngster in a car he could little control in adverse weather conditions. Very annoying indeed!

  3. on the topic of black box I had a quote from a provider I cant remember the name of the top of my head. they clamed all the data would only be used in the event of a accident

  4. I've had my license for about 3 years and alredy had 3 incidents all of which wete not my fault. Once I was hit from the back, the next one wrecked my car and ot was written off (hit and run the other guy was high) and the third one I was rammed on the right as a lady didn't look before turning or showed indication of turning. Now I have learned massively from these incidents but it feels absolutely unfair that when it's not your fault you still get to pay more…

  5. Charged for refusing to run over a child that jumps in front of you? I knew black boxes were very stupid and not worth the insurance discount. Lol.

  6. In addition to a daily car, i have a 185+mph Suzuki GSXR1300R Hayabusa which is only ridden about 3K a year – & is a proper scary ol' thing
    . . . . . . Insurance Cost – Only £181 p/a (fully comp) with Bennett's Bike Insurance
    Seriously !
How do they work that out ?

  7. For about the last 5yrs I've been paying between £430-£480 p/a (it was going up, predictably by £20 or so, each year)
I was reasonably happy with that, and allowed it to re-new automatically each year unchallenged, with no change in circumstances or input from me
(Its quite an old car (as i ride motorbikes 60% of the time)
    Then . . . . . .
Last year, for NO REASON & with explanation whatsoever, it dropped to just £260 p/a
    WHY ?
Nothing had changed, and the home & car was still the same – so whats that's all about ?
Obviously, i didn't question it – as i didn't want to 'Rock the Boat' and review it
Insurance Companies – they make it all up as they go along !

  8. You make a valid point about some non-fault accidents, but my insurance company tried to put my insurance up by £300 for the year after someone crashed into my unoccupied parked car. They reversed this very quickly after a phone call that was escalated to a manager!

  9. I drove a motor bike from 16 to 24 on learner plates and had one claim. Still yet to do my car test. Does anyone know whether my road experience would help reduce the price and/or my claim would increase the price?

  10. You might as well carry around a member of the police traffic division with you wherever you go rather than a black box, at least the police officer might warn you to slow down before he nicks you.

  11. Swiftcover insurance went down on my V10 Toureg 3 years on the trot.
My Audi RS6 is cheaper this year than last year but I had to go with a different insurer.
Many insurers show no loyalty, plus they only show the maximum of either 20 years or 9 year plus on two cars and a motorbike and they still increase the premiums on renewal.
I actually have nearly 45 years of no claims on cars and bikes.
The biggest insurance con is if you have an accident they load all your vehicles, but if you have a clean record for 5 year plus they only allow the no claims on one vehicle, total piss take.

  12. You MUST inform your insurance company of any unspent criminal offences, if you don't then they will void you policy in the event of a claim. Some offences are never spent. Insurance companies never check the details you give them when your insurance is incepted. In the event of a claim they will do a complete indemnity check on those details you filled in when buying your policy.
