Uber and Lyft drivers have special needs when it comes to car insurance. Like virtually all drivers, they need to carry personal liability insurance, and they probably want to buy full coverage to protect against damage to their vehicles.

Effective July 7, 2016, we are introducing a Rideshare insurance option for our Auto Insurance customers who use their personal automobile to transport people as part of a rideshare service such as Uber or Lyft. This optional Rideshare insurance endorsement extends a driver’s personal auto insurance coverages from the moment they turn on a company’s rideshare app until they accept a customer/ride.

Highlights of the optional Rideshare Insurance Endorsement

• Works across rideshare companies: Instead of limiting the driver to a single company, our Rideshare insurance coverage allows drivers to work with multiple rideshare companies.

• Cost-effective: Adding an endorsement to an existing policy will generally be less expensive than a separate commercial policy.

• Seamless coverage: Extends a driver’s underlying policy.

The Rideshare insurance endorsement will not be available to current Auto customers until the first renewal after August 6, 2016.
