  1. Thank the politicians for killing off racing in LI. These whores stirred up people to close the tracks for votes. RIP Westhampton Drag strip, Islip Speedway, NY National, Freeport & Bridgehampton Road Race circuit.

  2. When I was stationed at Suffolk County AFB in the mid 60's.  We were hired to make sure no one sneaked in the gates. We were paid a case of beer and I think at the time either  we were paid $20 or $25 dollars to do the job.  Of course we were allowed to watch the races also.  Good days  at the races……….

  3. I raced in the New York National held Super Stock Nationals meet on film here and have some footage of this very race on tape. I beat Dick Aarons Camaro in my Dodge Charger and lost in the next round to Dick Landy, all on tape. Lots of memories. I continued to race at Westhampton with my Cuda until it closed a few years ago. Sold the Plymouth, but I still have a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T to keep the memories alive, Great times indeed.

  4. I used to go to NY National speedway in the very early 70's

This was back in the day before racers used laptops to tune their cars

  5. Question for u old timers, where was NY National??….. Familiar with some of the other old track locations but not National…..

  6. Grew up at NY National. Moved from Long Island in'98. Now live 12 miles from starting line of Summit Motorsports Park Norwalk Ohio. No need to visit my house in Brookhaven much anymore. Only thing I miss about L.I. is the beach and that's closed half the time anyway. They still run the old gassers and funny cars every summer out here. You'll never see any racing again on the island if Riverhead closes.

  7. Yes, now i can see the resemblance, kind of a waste to cut up an old Jag– would a car like that even be legal for racing now ??
    Was that National speedway?
