The sport lost the legendary Dale Earnhardt on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500.

Man…looking just to the accident itself it doesn't look like so bad (to kill a person, I saw many way worse and the Dud walked from the car)…how did he die exactly?
I cried when I heard. I was 9
I was watching the race on TV that day. When the news broke that dale was gone I didn’t know how to process it at first. To this day it makes tear up and think about how much time has passed. How the sport has fallen apart. Just sad
I was almost certain a NASCAR fan would spray me with mace
Instead they sat there with grief
Only to wish they had more than 8 teeth
I didn't want to make this poem cause I knew it was mean
But then I thought well Earnhardt….
You Should Have Raced Clean
THE END
What do Dale Earnhardt and Pink Floyd have in common?
Last big hit was “The Wall”…
???
dale jr
Durrrrrrrrr?
I donr understand the crash didn't look that bad how did he die
Just imagine Micheal Jordan dying in the middle of getting scored on him by his son.
God took him and was like "you did good im proud of you"
Just like in the 2005 Hollywood 400 race from the Piston Cup where Chick Hicks wrecked Ryan Thunderbolt and die into Kevin Shiftright.
Will you guys think Dale Earnhardt and Elliott Sadler wrecks at Daytona?
I still cry watching this!
I'm an occasional Nascar watcher in the netherlands, and no matter how many times i see this, i just can't get my head around the fact that this crash took his life… i saw Senna's & Ratzinger's death live on tv and that was comprehensible because of the force of impact. But on tv, Dale's crash looked so incredibly gentle, even though i know it was a concrete wall, i thought: "This couldn't possibly be fatal…" But it was, unfortunately. And just like Senna, Dale's death caused for a wide variety of safety measures in Nascar that prevented other drivers from the same fate.
My mom cried my dad was devastated. 2001 was a hard year…I even cried.
I go back and this year after year. I was never a big NASCAR fan, but you didn’t have to be to know and respect him. I had the honor of meeting him at a gas station in rural SC in the middle of the night as I was driving thru. He was getting gas. My buddy was like “that looks just like Earnhardt”. I yelled out Let’s go 3!! He looked our way and halfway walked over and told us to be safe! No camera phone or nothing! I remember it like it was yesterday.
He died the exact day I was born. My dad saw it on the hospital television. He was – and still is – his favorite racer.

Worst days of the 2000s ever
If he just tried to win the race he'd still be alive

At 5:16 they made the call
Cause of death drove into wall
The intimadator collided with Ken Schrader
And then He died 2 seconds later
Jr was screaming and saddening
Not me….Nope I was the only one laughing
I stood in the crowd with a smile on my face
I was almost certain a NASCAR fan would spray me with mace
Instead they sat there with grief
Only to wish they had more than 8 teeth

Why did they make dale’s death into a transition?
