Auto Insurance?

BrokePerson asked:

I live in florida and had direct general auto insurance. I got a new policy with geico that is $60 cheaper per month and wanted to cancel direct, and they told me I have to come to their office to cancel. I am not about to drive 30 miles to their office in my old beater truck that goes through a quart a day, and stalls every other block, just to cancel insurance that costs more per month than my whole truck was. Will my license get suspened or will they just cancel the policy if I just abandon it and use geico?

  1. As long as you have continuous coverage, meaning that you have the Geico policy in effect before you cancel (or allow to lapse for non payment) the direct general policy, the state will have no problem!

Send the agent a certified letter requesting that your policy be canceled as of the day after the geico policy starts!

  2. Lately parenting forums have been buzzing with parents looking for ideas how to keep their teenagers from spending a lot of time on the computer and Internet. It seemsthat teenagersthese days are hooked on the computer just as they were hooked on watching television just a decade ago. In my travels through cyberspace, I have noticed an increasing number of websites and blogs discussingaccident and your car caused the damage, then the liability piece of your car insurance will cover the damages according to the terms of your policy.

  3. I have no idea why they would require you to visit their office just to cancel a policy. Buy your new insurance, then send a cancellation request in writing, with a date and your signature to the old company. They should then issue you a refund for the unused portion of the policy. You should have no problems as long as there is no break in coverage

  4. i have a better idea….just don’t pay it! it will cancel for nonpayment. this is actually BETTER than signing a cancellation because it will be canceled pro rate instead of short rate. this will actually cost you LESS in the end. if you changed companies at the renewal date and you just don’t pay the renewal from your original company, they will cancel it back to the renewal date if you don’t pay it.
